Physical Therapy at Physical Solutions
As our name suggests, we find solutions for our patients. Individuals come to us seeking explanations and effective treatment for problems which are limiting their activities and their enjoyment of life. Whether you are an athlete, an active gardener, or walker, you will be cared for in the same individualized and goal-directed manner. We apply the sports-medicine approach to all our patients because we know that staying active through the course of treatment is important and necessary for the best outcome.
Biomechanical and Neurophysiological Evaluation
A thorough, hands-on process including testing joint mobility, measuring range of motion (ROM) and muscle strength, and observing movements and functional patterns and comparing your results to “norms.”
Joint Manipulation
All of our physical therapists have specialized training in joint mobilization for testing and treatment purposes. These accessory movements are precisely how your joints should move. Joint manipulation restores ROM and movement in the most complete and comfortable way possible.
Specific Exercise Prescription
Exercise for our patients and personal-training clients is always designed for individual and his or her needs. Exercise prescription is based on the stage of the patient's injury and recovery, the nature of the problem, the patient/client activities, and the goals of the individual. The program will be evidence and experience based for the highest chance of success in the quickest manner possible. Maintaining activity in the acute phase and initiating a specific exercise program as symptoms allow are central strategies in speeding recovery, ameliorating persistent pain, and preventing recurrence.Soft-Tissue Manipulation
Soft-tissue or myofascial manipulation is a form of "massage" which includes stretching the fascia and releasing bonds between fascia and muscles with the goal of eliminating pain, increasing range of motion, and improving pain-free function. The fascia is manipulated, directly or indirectly, allowing the connective tissue fibers to reorganize themselves in a more flexible, functional fashion. The fascia is located between the skin and the underlying structure of muscle and bone in a seamless web of connective tissue that covers and connects the body's muscles, organs, and skeletal structures.
Injuries, stress, inflammation, trauma, and poor posture can cause restriction to fascia. Since fascia is an interconnected web, the restriction or tightness to fascia at a place with time can spread to other places in the body like a pull in a sweater. The goal of soft tissue manipulation is to release fascia restriction and restore its tissue health.
Orthotics
Because the feet can be a source of many problems we see in physical therapy, it is important that we evaluate your feet and their relationship to your legs and spine. When we feel that correction or compensation is an important part of the solution for your problem, we will cast your foot and work with the lab to fabricate an appropriate pair of custom inserts to help the alignment and function of your foot, ankle, knee, and hip. We'll also provide treatment to painful areas and provide effective exercise to stretch and strengthen to make sure corrections are complete, effective, and long lasting.
