Matt Olesen

Matt is a graduate of Duke University's Doctorate of Physical Therapy program. Matt has over ten years of experience in the fitness and wellness industry. He served as Director of Health and Fitness Programs at Yale University, managing health and fitness programs for students, athletes, faculty, and staff, as well as working with injured athletes to design post-rehab programs. Matt also served as Chief of Recreation, Marketing and Community Centers with the County of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department and as Assistant Director of Recreational Sports at California State Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo.

Educational Background

While enrolled in Duke's DPT program, Matt fostered his clinical therapy skills during his clinical rotations at Western Wake Medical Center, Duke University Medical Center, Duke University Pain and Palliative Care Clinic, and Duke Health Raleigh Hospital Outpatient Physical Therapy. At each of these sites, he used comprehensive physical therapy treatments based on scientific evidence and medical knowledge.

Professional Interests

Sport-specific rehab (especially golf, track, baseball, basketball, football, and tennis), orthopedics, manual therapy, injury prevention, fitness and wellness programs, and low-level laser therapy, which is also know as cold-laser therapy

Experience In Sports

Matt was an Academic All-American for the University of Connecticut Track and Field team. His events included long jump, triple jump, and javelin. A severe ankle injury ended his track career prematurely. Matt draws from his long experience of rehabilitating this injury to help educate patients on injury prevention and to develop sport-specific rehabilitation programs that help patients return to high levels of performance.
