Cathy Busby recalls some of her athletic highlights

Early training for competitive cycling

… well, OK I was patiently waiting for my feet to reach the pedals.

Varsity Field Hockey Goalie, 1973 and 1974

Appalachian State University - Team Captain

Softball, circa 1974

Played slow pitch softball with several open class tournament teams in NC

Colorado University Rainbows Rugby, 1978

The Rainbows were USA's first women's rugby team. It may not look like it in these pictures, but I really did enjoy playing. Just some days are better than others (the best days are when you win).

Marine Corps Marathon, Washington, DC 1982

Ultra-Marathon Cyclist (rides 200 miles or longer), 1989

Assault on Mount Mitchell - 100 miles from Spartanburg, SC to top of Mount. Mitchell, the highest peak of the Appalachian Mountains and the highest peak in eastern North America. Distance: 102 miles. Vertical feet of cumulative climbing miles: 11,000 plus.

I finished 64th of 900 overall, finished 3rd in women's division.

Here's the site for my record setting ride across NC - Murphy to Manteo: 607 miles in 44 hours and 52 minutes.
