Simply training harder, practicing more frequently, trying the latest fad, or buying the newest equipment may not bring the desired results. Many trainers, coaches and parents assume that good athletes inherently possess the key elements for excellent performance. They also assume that any strength training that improves muscle size or the ability to lift heavier weight will improve athletic performance. Our experience tells us otherwise.

What Does The Program Do?

Functional Evaluation

The solution for achieving peak athletic performance lies in evaluating and enhancing the way each individual performs the crucial elements of movement and sport. The functional testing we perform includes seven basic movements to test strength, mobility, stability, and balance. The exam requires the necessary functional patterns and combinations of movement necessary to be safe and successful in sports. In addition, we test several parameters of power and speed and aim to improve these as well through training.

Years of observation and research have allowed development of this screen to quickly ascertain potential risk when an individual's movement patterns are painful, limited, or altered. Recently a study of NFL players has shown this screen to be accurate in predicting which players are most likely to be injured (see Test Predicts Injuries for Professional Football Players in our December 2007 newsletter). We have been using this evaluation for a number of years as a pre-training screen. Our training programs are successful at correcting these functional problems in most cases, thus objectively reducing risk of injury.
